Accreditation For Growth (AFG) Performance Objectives

Introduction

ISG Dammam, part of the International Schools Group, Saudi Arabia, is accredited by Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools(MSA). ISG Dammam is undergoing the third year of its second accreditation cycle. In 2010, an MSA Accreditation Visiting Team has spent time, at the Dammam site, reviewing the school self-study, and the performance objectives as well as the action plans related to these objectives, and granted ISG Dammam full accreditation for a period of seven years. At the end of this term, in 2017, the school will host another MSA Accreditation Team for its third accreditation cycle. To oversee the preparations for the Accreditation Visiting Team, ISG Dammam formed an AFG Planning Team, composed of four administrators, two parents, two representative teachers from each department, four student representatives, an ISG Board of Trustees member, and a member representative of the ISG Governing Council. During a period of one year, from 2009 to 2010, the AFG Planning Team members tirelessly met and planned the accreditation process. For instance, the AFG Planning Team was in charge of elaborating the Mission Statement, Belief Statements, Graduate Profile, self-study document, based on twelve MSA standards, surveying all stakeholders-students, parents and teachers, using an MSA survey template, formulating the Growth Performance objectives and the action plans to support the attainment of those objectives.

After ISG Dammam was granted a full accreditation, the AFG Planning Team remained active, to oversee the completion of the AFG Action Plans tasks. To insure the achievement of these tasks, the Reading and Writing Task Force-composed of administrators and teachers- meets regularly. The roles of the task force include the yearly completion of the Action Plans tasks and the review of the Action Plans documents after every two-year period.

Accreditation for Growth (AFG) Performance Objectives

Performance Objective #1:

By June 2017, students at ISG Dammam will improve their reading achievement as measured by:

  1. An increase of five percent points in the overall mean in the SAT10 Total Reading Scores.
  2. An increase of five percent points in the overall mean in the SAT10 Total Reading Scores for EAL (English as Additional Language) students.
  3. An increase of five percent points in the SAT1 Critical Reading Scores.
  4. An increase of five percent points in the overall mean in the AFG Grade Level Reading Scores.
  5. An increase of five percent points in the overall mean Reading Semester Exams Score.
Performance Objective #2:

By June 2017, students at ISG Dammam will improve their writing achievement as measured by:

  1. An increase of five percent points in the overall mean in the SAT10 Total Language Scores.
  2. An increase of five percent points in the overall mean in the SAT10 Total Language Scores for EAL (English as Additional Language) students.
  3. An increase of five percent points in the SAT1 Writing Scores.
  4. An increase of five percent points in the overall mean in the AFG Writing Achievement Exams Scores.
  5. An increase of five percent points in the overall mean in the Writing section of the Language Arts Semester Exams Scores.

ISG Dammam Initiatives to Improve Reading and Writing

As part of the accreditation process, the AFG Planning Team has delineated the above growth objectives for reading and writing and has developed related action plans. The action plans include tasks related to teachers, administrators, and parents. The goal is to insure that efforts from various takeholders are intertwined and solely focused on improving student performance in reading and writing at ISG Dammam. Meshing with this goal, various initiatives related to reading and writing took place in the three departments-Elementary School, Middle School, and High School.
